Builders thought that water in the ground coming in contact with foundation wall made significant enough pressure to crack the foundation. THEY WERE WRONG
Now we know that when water gets under the footer that the foundation wall sits on and causes the ground to be soft enough where the house sits, this causes the cracks in the foundation. But millions of homes in NC have designed weep holes in the bottom of there crawl space foundation walls. This brings a good bit of moisture into the crawl space which then evaporates and causes the wood floor above to increase in Wood Moisture Content, above 16%, and causes mold to grow weakening your floor and bringing moldy air rising into the home.
